Halo Reach Open NAT on XBOX 360

To get the best results in matchmaking online in Halo Reach you should setup your router to offered OPEN NAT.  That just means to get the ports open and forwarded so XBOX LIVE can communicate well with other XBOX LIVE users.

Xbox LIVE requires the following ports to be open:

  • Port 88 (UDP)
  • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 80 (TCP)

Forward these ports to the ip address of your xbox on your network (usually 192.168.1.XXX)

To do this:

  1. Login to your router by typing in the ip address of your router (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1)
  2. Find the forwarding section of your router menu
  3. Forward these ports from the ip address of your XBOX (found in the network settings on the XBOX 360)
  4. Save settings
  5. Reboot router

Note If you cannot chat with someone using Video Kinect, you might need to open port 1863 (UDP and TCP).

If you’re connected to a network through your workplace or school, ask the network administrator to open the above ports used by Xbox LIVE.

Microsoft says…
NAT does not affect lag within gameplay. NAT only affects the ability to connect with other players.
